Many issues confronting the leaders of the Western Hemisphere is to be addressed in the upcoming American summit. One of the central issues is the global economic crisis that is threatening the downturn of the hard won economic gains. The Western Hemisphere has done economically well in the past six years. The per capita income was more than 3 percent a year, but that may change due to this crisis situation. Apart from the economic issues the US will also venture into the environmental agenda, focusing on clean energy. US and Brazil are working collectively to develop biofuel. US are also planning to work with other countries in the area of energy conservation.

Electric Sytems Get A Facelift
US regulatory boards are following the footsteps of some of the European and Pacific Rim nations in modernization of Electric power system into Power Grid. Government and Private sector is coming together and collaborating in this effort. It is estimated that this conversion would take 20 to 25 years. This process would require the total restructuring of the power system. Power Grid is one the 20th century’s important engineering achievement. During the past decade some of the grid’s physical component has been upgraded and wired. Electricity today is generated at large centrally located plants and then distributed and redistributed to reach consumer homes. The conversion to gird is going to be a tedious process.
